San Diego’s unemployment rate dropped to 7.4 percent in August from 7.8 percent in July, buoyed by a net gain of 2,900 jobs in the past month. The area’s leisure and hospitality sector contributed the largest share of the jobs, 3,300, followed by five other sectors that had net gains.
Three sectors showed monthly net losses: construction, down 1,800 jobs; financial activities, down 1,700; and manufacturing, down 100.
